Year 10 Trip To Snape
Wednesday, 15th July, 2009
Following their highly successful participation in the Suffolk Schools’ Prom back in February, Stradbroke Year 10 GCSE musicians were invited back to the Snape Maltings on the 25th June to participate in the ‘sound rebound’ project.
They were given a guided tour of the newly opened Hoffmann Building including the state of the art concert hall. They were also able to explore at first hand the interactive ‘sound installation’ in the foyer. Here, various types of string, woodwind and percussion instruments had been taken apart and then reformed to create new musical instruments, the sounds of which could be changed through music technology. In experimenting with sound and technology in this manner the students were given the chance to develop their performance and compositional skills in new ways. Their enthusiasm was such that they have been asked to participate in the new project planned for 2010.
