Year 9 Stem Visit

Monday, 12th April, 2010

On Wednesday 3rd March Mrs McKinna took twenty four of our top set science pupils on a trip to Debenham High School to take part in an event run by EDF. The event was designed to encourage pupils to consider the career opportunities that exist using STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects. While there they met engineers and thought about whether this may be a direction that they may want to take for themselves.

Bryher McCabe (9EM) enjoyed the day saying, ‘EDF invited three schools for the day to look at new job possibilities and meet new friends from other schools at the same time. It was a good day mixing learning with fun.’

Amy Sunshine (9EM) agreed, “We got to interact with other pupils from Thomas Mills and Debenham which was a great opportunity to make new friendships. We played a game and did a quiz which was learning and having fun at the same time. The activities, such as a quiz, took teamwork and cooperation.”

The pupils were put into teams with people from other schools, and it is pleasing to report that the winning team included three of our pupils. Well done to Daniel Knox (9GN), Craig Riseborough (9PE) and Sam Newson (9PE).

We hope that all enjoyed this visit and learnt more about careers using STEM subjects and possibly bear this in mind when selecting options. Mrs McKinna would like me to thank and congratulate all those that went on the trip for their impeccable behaviour and very positive attitude. It is lovely that our pupils are our best ambassadors.
