‘a’ Level History

Friday, 21st May, 2010

Pupils on our Gifted & Talented ‘A’ level History course are making super progress. The Year 10s, Matthew Deatker, Tilly Heydon, Emily Self, Florence Vane, Jess Barton, Lois Ferguson and Robyn Searle began the challenging course last September and have been studying the Early Stuarts.

The course leader, Mrs Cheyne, had this to say about her pupils: ‘The academic ability of this group is quite astounding, their hunger for knowledge, their enthusiasm for the subject and their desire to succeed has taken my breath away. We are certainly looking at extending our already successful G&T programme to include more high level academic challenges for all year groups in 2010’.

The first exam is on 26th May and then we begin the second module, The Cold War in Asia. Next January is the final exam which means there will be no conflict with GCSE study. The UCAS points awarded with the exam results can be used when applying for places at University, so this course has extra benefits for our pupils.
