NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY

We are about to embark on our annual reading challenge of shadowing the Carnegie Children’s Book Award. This involves some of our best readers, a selection of staff and a reading group from the village library in reading the eight shortlisted titles and then getting together in the library for a lunch and book discussion. We vote on which book we think should win and compare our vote to the title selected. This is an enormously enjoyable activity that allows us to stretch the most able readers in the school combined with the community involvement of the public library.

The shortlisted books are:-

• Rowan the Strange by Julie Hearn
• Nation by Terry Pratchett
• The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
• The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness
• Fever Crumb by Philip Reeve
• Revolver by Marcus Sedgwick
• Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson
• The Vanishing of Katharina Linden by Helen Grant
