SSC & ASDAN

Specialist Support Centre

We are very privileged to have the only Specialist Support Centre within a mainstream High School throughout the whole county. We have an allocation of twelve places for pupils with specific learning difficulties and moderate learning needs.

At Key Stage 3 we follow a much differentiated but parallel curriculum to that of mainstream groups. At Key Stage 4 some pupils follow a Life Skills programme enabling them to prepare for everyday living. Entry Level English and Maths are also undertaken as well as some stand alone AQA Units. Many of our youngsters are able to take up a weekly work placement.

Asdan

Asdan is an Award Scheme which allows pupils to practise and develop Basic Skills, Life Skills and Key Skills up to Level 1. Challenges range from studying the environment to planning and cooking a two course meal.

We work very closely with many local businesses on a range of projects and go out into the community to both learn about the world of work and to volunteer. We are regular visitors at a care home for the elderly.

Bronze, Silver Challenge, Silver and Gold are the levels at which pupils can achieve accreditation.
