The role of the Governing Body is to set the strategic direction of the school. The Governing Body acts as a 'critical friend' in ensuring accountability and is answerable to parents and the community.

Governors provide both support and challenge.

Specific responsibilities include:

• · Setting the school’s aims and values
• · Promoting high standards of education and achievement
• · Planning the school’s long-term future
• · Appointing the Headteacher and senior staff
• · Budgetary allocation and control.

The day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher.

Your Governing Body is made up of:

•  7      Parent Governors (elected by parents)
•  3      Staff Governors (elected by school staff)
•  4      Local Authority Governors (appointed by the Local Authority)
•  5      Community Governors (members of the local community appointed by the  Governing Body)
•          Headteacher

In summary, as Governors, we work closely with the Headteacher and senior staff to: enhance the future development of the school; ensure a high quality of educational provision and support for pupils and staff; create an environment that supports this work; raise the aspirations and achievement of the young people in our care.

Governors are normally elected or appointed for a term of office of four years. The Headteacher is automatically a member of the Governing Body, unless he/she decides not to be. At least one Staff Governor, other than the Headteacher, must be a teacher.
